Santiago de Compostela, located in Galicia, Spain, is a fascinating city with deep historical, cultural, and religious significance. It is the final destination of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage.
The main places that we will visit in Santiago de Compostela are:
Santiago de Compostela Cathedral: The Cathedral of Santiago is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the Christian world. It is an impressive example of Romanesque architecture, with Gothic and Baroque elements. Inside, you can see the tomb of Saint James (Santiago), the apostle, who is believed to be buried here.
Botafumeiro: The famous Botafumeiro, a large incense burner that swings across the nave during special masses, is another highlight.
Praza do Obradoiro: The square in front of the Cathedral is one of the most beautiful in the city, surrounded by stunning buildings such as the Hostal dos Reis Católicos and the Palacio de Raxoi. It’s an iconic spot for pilgrims who have completed the Camino de Santiago.
We’ll have tapas for lunch and then we will go to Valença do Minho.
Valença do Minho is a beautiful historic town located in the north of Portugal, near the Spanish border. It offers a fantastic mix of cultural heritage, nature, and breathtaking landscapes. Here, we will visit the Valença Fortress, an important military landmark. The fortress has a rich history and offers panoramic views of the Minho River and the Spanish border.
We’ll enter the fortress walls and enjoy a stunning view from the top. The fortress also has a charming historic center within its walls, with cobbled streets and delightful shops.
At the end of the afternoon, we’ll return to Porto.
