Filigree is an intangible cultural heritage, and the city of Gondomar (just 5 minutes from Porto) is known as the “Capital of Jewelry” in Portugal. Handmade filigree holds a prominent place among the creations of local goldsmiths. It is produced in small-scale family workshops, using techniques passed down from generation to generation.
The filigree route allows you to explore traditional workshops, meet the goldsmiths of Gondomar, and witness the entire artisanal production process.
You will be picked up from your hotel or accommodation in Porto at 08:30 in the morning.
The journey begins at the Filigree Municipal Museum, located in the Casa Branca de Gramido, a historic building situated on the banks of the Douro River. As part of the itinerary, we will be visiting a traditional workshop.
Optionally, you can attend a professional school specializing in the art of jewelry-making, where workshops on filigree and chiseling techniques are offered.
Lunch will be at a restaurant serving typical Portuguese cuisine, with options for fish, meat, or vegetarian (gluten-free meals are also available – just let us know in advance).
After lunch, we will embark on a fantastic boat trip, where you will discover some of the most beautiful landscapes the Douro has to offer, enjoy a fantastic wine during the trip, and even swim in the river, if you wish.
You will return to your accommodation in the late afternoon, knowing you have had a memorable experience filled with knowledge about filigree, Portuguese food, stunning landscapes, and the local culture of this unforgettable destination.
